Consultant helps clients make most of the equipment
By Andy Baron Staff Writer
LEOMINSTER - Viscoloid Avenue is a long way from Bombay, India, but 33-old Moiz Bhindarwala is used to challenging
situations' Bhindarwala, the owner of M.S. Enterprises Inc., a computer consulting and accessories company at 225 Viscoloid Ave., said his business is small enough to cater to individual clients but large enough to attract computer giants like Digital Equipment Corp. And being responsive to the needs of various computer firms is what has kept people like Bhindarwala in business in an ever-changing computer field. Hiscompanyhasbeenherefor3l/2 years.
Selling himself
It's all a matter of knowing the competition, he said during a recent interview in his office. And just who is the competition? 'My competition is really myself," said the native of India. 'It's a matter of how much I go out and sell myself." He followed up his words by producing a computer quarterly magazine that he distributes, free of charge, to prospective clients. The first issue of the quarterly 'Computer Times" newsletter, which offers the latest information on computer systems, was produced this summer. While M.S. Enterprises performs a variety of tasks, its three main functions are to offer productivity solutions, give computer consulting and provide software training. Bhindarwala has three computer consultants working for him in areas of software development, computer installation and maintenance.

If there is a weakness in his company, Bhindarwala said, it would be that he relies on few newspaper and magazine advertisements to tout his company. But there are advantages, too. "Being small and customer driven, we're able to have a handle on the cost of doing business," he said. "There are times I tell clients, 'No.' " In an effort to stay fresh with the latest computer technologies, Bhindarwala frequently attends computer trade shows. "I have to keep myself informed," he said. "In fact, I'm an information hogger"
Much of Bhindarwala's penchant for information stems from his working in various computer position capacities during the past several years. He worked for different computer companies for six years in Detroit and later as a computer research associate for Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. A strong educational background has helped too. He earned a master's degree in biology in 1984 and a master's degree in business administration in 1988, both from the University of Detroit. He lives on Industrial Road with his wife Shamim, and a daughter 2 1/2. Bhindarwala said it is a challenge to walk into a business and determine what computer system best suits the need of that company. He follows a quick three-step process, by presenting a needs analysis, establishing a company objective and then implementing the computers and necessary accessories.
Bhindarwala said M.S. Enterprises has been fortunate to be able to serve the smaller companies on a regular basis as well as some larger businesses and agencies.

Among other projects, he has developed software for Massachusetts Regional Transit Authority in Fitchburg to use for bus routes and other transportation uses. He also has worked closely with Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission in Fitchburg to find a way to present traffic information for 13 area cities and towns. "For me to succeed," he said, "I have to have people know that I'm here first before I can go somewhere else."
